Opening 200 words

Eyes followed our every move in the forest, and every step only made escape that more difficult. High, towering oak trees circumvented our position clinging onto the remaining summer leaves as they gently began to fade into their autumn tone. The healthy green grass had been worn away by the stomping of boots and heavy tyre tracks that all funnelled into the centre of the forest. The paths were intertwined between the bare overhanging branches and were lined with the graves of shrubbery that had once held the homes of the surrounding wildlife. Purple blossoming heather could be seen in places still with its strong potent smell of earth, accompanied by the bodies of fallen soldiers that weeped blood onto the purple flowers of the heather staining their beauty.
It had all began after the Germans entered Hürtgen Forest, and it was then when we were sent in by the 1st Infantry Division to try and suppress what appeared to be a weak threat. However as each bullet casing that hit the floor, one meter was gained and blood would again besmirch the flowers of that purple heather. No man walked back after seeing the eyes of a grey uniform armed with death and ordered to slaughter us like cattle. No mercy. Men trembled not in fear, but the certainty of what we were facing.

http://www.100wordstory.org/3580/never-nine/

I personally found this narrative is filled with metaphors, as long as you understand them. For example:

The doctor tells me over the curl and swoop of telephone wire,

implying that she was told over the telephone. By making such a simple task seem so difficult to understand it makes this poem even more confusing. In addition, there seems to be vacancies in the text, as in the first line seems incomplete, showing an example of writing showing the traits of a post-modernism piece.

8 opening sentences to a book

The cold blood began to trickle down his warm cheek and onto the white marble floor.

As I sat there and thought on what was being said I realised that the image in my mind began to coalesce.

Our what seem insignificant daily experiences, I have just realised, is the very foundation of ourselves; however, it's the things that hurt the most that influences our actions.

I could picture it now, it was early morning outside the crooked and rotting entrance gates to where my childhood once flourished.

We could tell that the abundant silence meant something had happened to him.

London is a miserable place on a winter's night.

The end, I believe, is difficult to see no matter how far from the start.

The prospect of being able to go back and start all over has diminished ever since we took that first step outside.

How to hack the pentagon?

Hacking has become a part of the modern world, something which everyone is threatened by; yet it is eccentric to believe that a simple thing such as a single set of code could not only change the world, but manipulate it. We have been mislead to believe that out world is safe from exploitations, the simple illusion that whenever you put your credit card in a machine it is only taking the precise amount of money, no other details and personal information which may leave us vulnerable to other simultaneous cyber attacks. So, this will be the infrastructure of how we could hack into the pentagon, by the use of a deceptive distraction.

Furthermore, if we infiltrate one of the most secure firewalls in the entire world would be a risk, nevertheless, the pay off would be magnificent. We will have control over the world's largest arsenal of nuclear and other advanced weaponry, we will be able to seek information of other potential targets and we will declare war on any country which shall throw a rock at our Goliath. But, perhaps the most paramount of all the points is the potential money involved. We could be paid millions in order to cease our now inevitable attack. The amount of power which we may be able to hold in our hands is infinite, nothing of any kind is parallel to the potential power which me may possess. A point which I may have overlooked is the ability to humiliate the Americans, allowing us to breach their secure, impenetrable security. However, as a way to exacerbate their problem even further, we are now able to exploit them one by one, as a way to do this I will use this quote by Abraham Lincoln, 'A house Divided cannot stand.' By implementing this it will remind the tarnished population of the US that their decedent inner souls aren't impervious to every attack originating from a foreign source, and by doing so this shall emphasise how they take things for granted, and we shall take it from them to teach them the words of Satan.

What we are doing is treason, there is no compromise and there is a chance that we may be put into prison for the rest of our lives; on the other hand, with our untraceable servers which 'bounce' round the globe this problem shall be diverted. Obviously there will be risks and limitations for the idea, however, the power of Satan shall be cooperating with us to achieve our goals. Nonetheless, we shall be in this together when fighting the enemy, we stand together, through the good and the bad; so don't feel alone in our fight against these pretentious God Lovers, but feel stronger in moments of peril. Our fight for this noble cause will cause sacrifices to be made, but, we stand together when we make them and drive on.

We will hack the pentagon, and we will win the fight against God and his followers.

Subject: Riots
Purpose: Persuade
Audience: Irish People

We live in an age where political debate is boring; so, don't do riots, and keep it boring. Why would you want to encourage your right to freedom of speech. Try and find the problems which you are passionate about: turn them off and forget them.

One of my friends friends go to wellington where they have english lessons in classrooms such as e4. And from what other people have said they think the classrooms are dull, boring and underwhelming however i have never been there myself. There is a lack of pictures something which helps in a literature lesson from my point of view because there is no words.

Parody of Moby Dick

Over the last few decades the exploration into marine life has greatly diminished, when in comparison to the exploration of other sciences; so, as a way to rekindle the passion for marine life, we, The National Geographic, have decided to try and shoot footage of the tyrannical beast, Moby Dick, as a way to delve deeper into the secrets of the blue ocean.
We begin our voyage in the heart of whale documenting country, Nantucket, now famously known for its preservation of the whale, and its moral mission to protect whales. We departed for Azores, a small island off the coast of Portugal, well known for being infested with schools of whales, which is set to be our first stop in order to seek out the mysterious Moby Dick. As we arrived, we were disheartened by the wasted journey as the location was uninhabited by whales; nevertheless, the bionic legged Director, Mr. Ahag, hadn’t lost hope, he said we were to stop at Cape Verde on our way to the Pacific. Cape Verde reciprocated the exact characteristics of the preceding location.
Then, only a few days after shooting, we ran into our first school of whales, just off the coast of Africa, near the country of Papa New Guinea. Whales would be floating past the hull of the ship, allowing us to gaze at the wonderful magnificence, enabling us to document these whales with concise detail. We were able to see their grooved skin, hay like mouths and, by using a receiver of very low electromagnetic frequencies, could hear the strongest biological communication out of the entire world. Yet, the prize still awaited, the infamous White Backed Whale was yet to be sighted for our report.
After our final stop for food and fuel at Cape of Good Hope had ended, we were able to continue our voyage. As we sailed, multiple ships went gliding by, a particular gam with  The Jeroban, not only gave information about Moby Dick, but a simultaneous warning as well was accompanied with it. This powerful beast has the power to overturn boats and take out fleets with its merciless temperament. As we glided deeper and deeper into the heart of the Indian Ocean, schools of whales would be swimming besides us, our small boats would provide little protection to the elements, yet the power of one whale would, with much ease, be able to submerge a single, minuscule boat, causing the heart of oneself to pump enthusiastically in order to keep up with the demanding adrenaline rush as a a consequence of our intersecting paths with the whales.
During our month long trip along the turbulent Indian Ocean, we were able to catch crucial information liable for our report, however it remained incomplete due to the vacancy of one crucial element. This, element, was then filled on the 21st of January 2014.
We were nearing the final stop of our journey, Japan, and, as we were heading into the Pacific Ocean, we felt more alone than we have experienced when at the preceding locations. Roughly 200m from the Starboard side we saw this isolated ripple hover over the surface of the ocean, we only interpreted this as another illusion performed by Mother Nature; yet, as the water surrounding us began to rumble, the ship beginning to sway and crew members from all point of the anarchical system came onto the platform, all, at the same time, experienced a spectacle that of which whale hunters would have relished. This opulent creature, with its white back, seemed so tender and honourable, yet the mere greatness of the organism was difficult to digest as a minuscule human. Despite being in the presence of something immense, it simultaneously reminded us to fear it, almost as a warning for those who may have trifled with it.

Departing from this memorable experience we were able to reflect on the magnitude of what we just witnessed, perhaps the most feared creature in the entire world swimming adjacent to us. This is life changing experience is that of which my Great Grandfather, Ishmael, would have been proud of.

Reflection of Timeline presentation

For our timeline we tried to display the journey of the Pequod through the medium of a Google Earth tour, and within it, we have the key points of the story. For example when Tashtego is saved by Queequeg, the mysterious spearman. As a way to develop our understanding further we created a presentation, and on the slides it would have the pictures of key points on the tour; accompanied by analysis of those parts, as well as the character development. However, I believe that we could have said more about the analysis of characters and under lying themes, instead of the obvious.

Overall I believe that it is an effective piece of work to explain the plot of the story by using visual representations, and character development. However I believe we could have wrote more about the underlying themes and more PEE analysis.

8 aptitudes of Captain Ahab

Linguistic-5/10

I gave this mark because he doesn't communicate as much as other characters, all due to him being idle in his cabin. My reasoning for his average mark, is that since he may be cognisant of other characters.

Logical-5/10

When given a description of Captain Ahab, Peleg informs the reader how he doesn't speak; but when he does, you should listen. Also, it becomes apparent that he has been to college, something which at the time is very prestigious, and something which isn't abundant throughout society of that era.

Cultural-8/10

Captain Ahab has been around the world, so you may think that he has a strong cultural side. He has experienced a lot since he has been among cannibals.

Physical-2/10

He has been physical, but since he lost his leg this has greatly minimised his score. However, it could be argued that since he has lost his leg each movement is even more extraordinary.

Spiritual-6/10

Due to him remaining quiet the majority of the time you can believe he is mellow character, however due to him remaining silent, the suspicion around him spreads; then it could be argued that since he is quiet, he maybe a humble character.

Moral-3/10

He seems to show a disregard for other people, for he is captain, but never on deck. Showing he has minimal leadership skills, and doesn't care what may happen. This only applies to what I have read.

Personal-4/10

Ahab seems to show that he doesn't care about anyone but himself, he is very egotistic. Also, he lacks to show respect to other shipmates, forcing them to do work, not himself.

Social-1/10

He has never left his cabin, he doesn't interact with others, and feels that he has no motive to leave the cabin.

Overall-34/80

Moby Dick Analysis

Moby Dick Analysis

In the first chapter of the novel Moby Dick he uses many different categories of words in order to give the reader detail, simultaneously also giving the reader a clear and concise overview. An example could be through the use of technical nautical terms, these include: forecastle, whaling and officers. The consequence which this will have on the reader, is that it will give the reader a good insight into the plot of the book, almost as if they know the story without reading with insightful depth. In addition to this, use of numbers accompany this theme. This will help through showing us that the book is quite precise, I come to this conclusion because many of the words are: first, once, once and two. Showing that the book doesn't breach the walls of personal communication, the character and us keep to ourselves.

How to find a good source?

Our task was to use resources researched by another group to write a 10 point biography. Challenges which you would face might be:

  • Access
  • Density of the information.
  • Reliability.
  • It may have been difficult to find on the website, so you may need to click on many other hyperlinks in the website to get the information required.
  • Some of the information my be useless.

Pastiche of Herman Melville

As you look from side to side, you see people 'attempting' to settle down for prep time. The worn down lockers, each accompanied by the presence of a lock to secure the belongings within. Then, once in a while you here the gentle murmur of distant students, each doing their difficult prep. However, as you are drawn into the sensation of calm, you soon realise your dexterity to beguile oneself in an engaging computer game. Or, as the most common form in my case, FIFA Ultimate Team, where people attempt to galvanise one another in the awe of their tenacious team.

Moby Dick: opening chapter

Description of People:

At the very beginning of the book he you are welcomed by the opening phrase, 'Call me Ishmael.' The effect which this has on us the the informality, instantly telling you a small snippet of the characters background. In addition, this point is reciprocated through the phrase, 'having little or no money in my purse... and a purse is but a rag unless you have something in it.' Showing the lower economic stature of this narrator. Furthermore, he begins to show the reasoning for why he needs to be a sailor, and how it gives him a sense of fulfilment.
He then goes on to describe how people will flock to the sea, as well as him, to stop and look at its wonder, aura and contemplate its greatness. This is exaggerated through the detail to show how people will do anything to see the sea, for example: to stand on top of rigging to watch ships from China come gliding in.
Finally, how people have succumb to the presumption that to serve is rebuking oneself, rather than coming to the realisation that people serve; no matter how small.
